I just heard that boredom and loneliness are the two biggest factors leading to depression in the elderly population. These are two things we can and do help alleviate with our clientele.
One of our CG’s makes pressed flower cards with each new client, others play games, do puzzles, take clients out for scenic rides, out to lunch together, visit nail salons, walks as regularly as possible.
We have taken clients to concerts in the park, parades, boat races, fairs, museums, Reny’s, Goodwill’s, Marden’s, picnics (even in the back yard), farmer’s markets, garden stands, fireworks, pancake breakfasts, baked bean suppers, just to name a few.
I have played fun music and danced with some of my clients like teenagers in the living room.
Activities alleviate boredom, loneliness and helps us all to feel like part of the human race. These last few years have sure shown us how much people interaction can mean.
Be creative. Find out what your client likes to do. Encourage. It is summertime in Maine, look around you for the things that are happening.
Be Covid cautious, take precautions (and sanitizer) and have fun together. You are creating memories for both of you!
